WERKS Reunion: Monterey Automobile Week
Monterey Week is one of the most spectacular annual automobile events in the world.
Held on the picturesque Monterey peninsula, the week’s events include a myriad of concours, racing at the famed Leguna Seca course, prestigious auction events, and elegant cocktail hours.
If a person has never attended Monterey Week, then they will be astounded at the vast array of events to attend. While the WERKS Reunion is open to the public, other assorted happenings include auction “viewings” with admission at $40 generally and bidders expecting to pay $300.+ for the chance to throw the hat into the classic car collecting ring. From small street shows free to the public to major concours, entry admission can range from $325. at Pebble Beach to $600. to enjoy the day at the Quail Lodge event. Laguna Seca hosts an entire weekend of classic auto racing which is wildly popular. Plan your excursion wisely because tickets may not be available on the day of your selected race event.
With regard to the Porsche world, the WERKs Reunion is a well managed and attended event. The interested and enthused California Porsche market has generated a standout showing of great 356 examples at the WERKs event. There are several 550/356 types that caught the informed attention, given the provenance and specific automobile history.
Celebrating a 70th anniversary for Ferrari, the Pebble Beach course was well populated with some of the most prestigious and expertly restored examples. The Ferrari world celebrated and was definitely a well established force on the course! From a strictly design oriented perspective, one could not deny that the craftsperson-ship on display was much to be admired.
The week culminates with the world class Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance hosted at the links overlooking Carmel Bay. A surreal and outrageously beautiful local that hosts a must-attend event if you happen to be at Monterey Week. Albeit with only one Porsche (1952 bent window cab) in the standing for this year, the vast array of rare and truly beautiful automobiles will take any detail oriented auto lover’s breath away!
For the well seasoned, Monterey Week is a time to show your colors, bring your most meticulously restored vehicle, your fastest racer and dress with appropriate attire for each event! Monterey Auto Week should, at some point, be on every classic auto lover’s list of events to attend. Even if you are devoted to/ focused on one particular marque, there is a plethora of display events, racing, and auctions to please any auto enthusiast with gasoline pumping through their veins!
