Most of you Porsche followers know by now that Rennsport VI was successfully held at WeatherTech Raceway in Laguna Seca, California from Sept. 27th through the 30th. Reportedly over 80,000 fans visited the sprawling 2.2 mile track and paddock for the ultimate Porsche experience. Factory participation could be seen all throughout the paddock and the aptly named Porsche Park in the Paddock. Name a significant Porsche, new or old and you could find one somewhere in the paddock. Truly Porsche overload wherever you looked.
Over 500 Porsches were entered for the event with about 350 taking part of the track events.
The Porsche car corrals reportedly saw an astounding 1600 cars!
A contingent of 356/911 owners from our 356 club made the event, which happens only every 3-4 years. Tom Oerther, and son Steve, and Steve’s son Henry, Matt and Adam Boettcher, Stan, Nancy, Lauren and Sarah Yarrish, and Chase Gober and son Roan.
At Rennsport there is as much happening off track as there is on track. Porsche legendary drivers were being interviewed on the Porsche Park big stage, Porsche drivers signing everything at autograph sessions, car corrals, special exhibits, visiting the Porsche Classic building, visiting the Porsche Tech and Apparel building.
The 1948 Porsche #1 was also on display and was driven by Dr Wolfgang Porsche during the Historic
Porsche parade laps.
The new 935 racing Porsche was unveiled and on display in the Porsche Park in the Paddock. The design has recognizable lines taken from the 935/78 twin turbo LeMans car. Only 77 customer cars will be produced. Also unveiled was 911 Speedster concept car. More photos are available on the PCA website.
And my favorite, getting a free ride from the paddock up to the top of the famous Corkscrew turn in a new Porsche Cayenne, Panamera, or Macan, all driven by Porsche employees from the Porsche Experience Centers. Oh, and they also provide free rides down the big hill.
This is truly a “Bucket List” event for the Porsche fanatic. Don’t miss the next one…
