The 356 Registry West Coast Holiday was held during beautiful northern Arizona fall weather in Flagstaff on Oct 2nd thru Oct 6th.
The event was sell out within a couple of days of registration opening. The sprawling Little America resort hotel provided the home base for all of the activities, which were organized by the High Desert Holiday Committee and the Arizona Outlaws 356 club. Great job by everyone involved. This was the fifth 356 Holiday organized by the Arizona Outlaws club.
Stan and Nancy Yarrish were the only Drei Staaten Gruppe registrants, and were joined by daughter Sarah from Texas.
The driving tours were either group led or on your own, and visited some of the great locales in Northern Arizona. Tops on the list was
a drive to the South rim of the Grand Canyon, trips to Sedona, and the Red Rocks area, and a visit to Jerome, an old mining town
perched on a side of a hill overlooking the valley below.
Tech sessions on Friday included some of the top 356 restoration shops in Arizona including Competition Engineering, Deluxe Customs, and Stuttgart Upholstery. Check out their websites to see the fabulous restorations and engine builds from these shops.
A special reception was held on Friday night that included a very informative Native American dance group from the Hopi
Indian tribe including a rich discussion of the Hopi tribal outfits and head wear, and some insight into the Hopi culture today.
This was a very cool addition to the normal Registry Holiday agenda.
Saturday’s Peoples Choice Concours was held in the massive parking area on the hotel grounds. Over 170 Porsche 356’s were
displayed in the various classes, all organized very neatly. The Concours banquet was another success, and included a very special guest speaker. Renee Brinkerhoff is an American racing driver who started her racing after her family was grown up. She races a specially modified Porsche 356 in some of the most grueling road rally’s in the world. Her goal is to race her 356 in all seven continents. She placed first in her class in the 2013 La Carrera Pan America rally. This was a great 356 Holiday event and it will take a huge effort to top this one. In 2020 the West Coast Holiday will be held in Bend, Oregon from August 26-30. The organizers indicated that there will be adequate rooms to register everyone interested in attending.
