Porsches to Ohio at Burr Oak State Park
The Mid Ohio PCA club moved their July 2019 annual all Porsche car show to Burr Oak State Park, located in Southeast Ohio near Athens. The scenic venue is home to a large 650 acre lake for boating and fishing, and has a full service lodge, or if you choose rustic cabins in the forest. It’s about a 3 ½ hour drive from West Chester, depending on your route and stops along the way.
I have to admit I didn’t know much about this State Park before MOPCA chose this as their venue. Nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Burr Oak Lodge & Conference Center overlooks sparkling Burr Oak Lake while blending beautifully into the natural forest for which southern Ohio is so well-known.
You may have heard about or been to Hocking Hills State Park which is in the same south east part of the state.
This was billed as a “Casual Porsche Party” that included a Friday night social gathering with light snacks, the P2O main event on Saturday right near the lodge, and a Saturday night dinner if you were inclined. There were two Sunday morning early drives for those who wanted to drive the scenic back roads in this beautiful part of Ohio. It reminded me of the Porsche Parade in Vermont a few years back.
The event gathered about 80 Porsches, and the People’s choice judging was divided into five categories. All 356, Air Cooled 911, Water Cooled 911, Boxster/Cayman, and the final category that included 914’s, 928’s, 944’s and
A large group of OVR and Drei Staaten Gruppe members made the event and enjoyed the laid back casual weekend.
Very cool hand made beer mugs were made by a MOPCA member who is an established potter. Several Cincinnati members were chosen for the People’s Choice awards.
Best in Show – Steve Leiding – 1960 356B Roadster
356 Category – Tom Oerther – 1965 356C Cabriolet
911 Air Cooled – Stan Yarrish – 1978 SC coupe

Other members who showed their cars were Grant Karnes, Matthew Boettcher and Larry Haskett.
Many family members and friends made the weekend trip along with
the car guys which made the weekend more enjoyable for all. The MOPCA president has indicated that they are going back to Burr Oak on July 24-26, 2020 with an expanded and improved agenda. It was a very nice way to spend a weekend with Porsche friends.
